Strong performance for the Styrian social business community!

For the third time, the Social Business Hub Styria hosted Styria’s largest networking event for social and green entrepreneurship at the UNICORN Startup & Innovation Hub. The focus was on the topic of social entrepreneurship in a Europe of regions. Regional and international guests discussed the importance of regionally active entrepreneurs who are tackling the global challenges of our time with innovative solutions.

After greetings from Provincial Councillor Barbara Eibinger-Miedl, Provincial Councillor Simone Schmiedtbauer and City Councillor Günter Riegler and a welcome from the Social Business Hub Styria board duo, Kirsten Tangemann and Rüdiger Wetzl, the 100 or so guests at the largest networking event for the Styrian social business scene followed the presentation of the “Social Business and Startup Schmiede Oststeiermark” project by regional developer Vera Ebner (Regionalentwicklung Oststeiermark). This project of the “Rural Innovation Systems” program aims to strengthen social entrepreneurship in Eastern Styria and build a strong network for entrepreneurs with socially effective business ideas in the region.

The subsequent discussion round with the project partners Daniela Adler (Managing Director of Regionalentwicklung Oststeiermark)) and Wolfgang Berger (Managing Director of Regionalentwicklungsagentur Oststeirisches Kernland), as well as the EU expert for Interreg projects Sabina Cimerman (Referat Landesplanung und Regionalentwicklung, Land Steiermark) and the successful social entrepreneur Fabian Gems (Managing Director of SUPASO) highlighted the role of regional social entrepreneurs with regard to global challenges and focused on the relevance of sustainable solutions.

In addition, Pau Serrat Pagespetit (FACTO Cooperativa), Szabolcs Hollósi (Hárfa, Ex Ante) and Kirsten Tangemann (Social Business Hub Styria) shared their experiences from the international EU project partnership GRESODI, which aims to raise awareness of impact-oriented entrepreneurship in the respective regions through knowledge transfer.

The subsequent part of the event was all about networking. Social impact start-ups from the Impact Program of the Social Business Hub Styria presented their products and services and took the opportunity to talk to the guests and make valuable contacts.
